We bought this dish washer last year. We've owned six washers in the many houses we've lived in during the past 45 years (so we've obviously had a lot of practice with operating dish washers) but this washer is absolutely the worst! It cleans okay, but it's noisy, takes four hours to do a complete cycle and it doesn't dry the dishes; we have to leave the door open to let it air dry for another two or three hours or dry the dishes ourselves. We called for service and even though we have an extended warranty, we were given such guff by the customer service rep (who obviously didn't want to send out a serviceman) that our good opinion of Kenmore products has gone down the chute. Wish we'd returned it when we had the chance and bought something else. It is substantially smaller than the older model. I used to be able to only wash once or twice a week or do almost all the dishes from a dinner party for 6. Now I can barely go two days. What a disappointment. It is so quiet, I've had to walk in the kitchen to see if it is actually running. I've seen complaints about the way it cleans, but that has never been problem for me. I've deliberately left food on the plates and pans to see how well it would clean them, and everything has always come out perfectly clean and dry. After using the machine for 14 months we woke up one morning to find our kitchen flooded and water soaking the carpet in the basement under the dishwasher. Turns out there was nothing securing the pump to the frame. The pump was 'secured' by using two measly clamps to attach the pump to the hose. One of the clamps popped off and water went everywhere. Water compromised virtually every electrical component. Sears has replaced some of the parts and others are on back order. No use of D/W for 2 weeks at least. Getting billed labor too. So upset with sears and they have not offered much for their product failure. SOOOOOO upset with sears. by BuckeyeAlLima, OH | Fri, Feb 21, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 1 visitors found this helpfulCleans VERY well and dries VERY well too when done correctly I've owned this machine for about a week now and was concerned the first time I ran it because the inside walls stayed very wet after the cycle is completed. The green light came on, but I could still hear a faint sound, so I knew the fan must still be running. I used the 1 hour wash and the smart dry but did not load any dishes and did not use any detergent or Jet Dry this first time. I opened the door as soon as the green light came on and it said it was complete too. Then I talked with my Sears salesperson and told him what happened. He said to use the pouch type detergent and to also get the "Turbo 3X Dry" type Jet Dry, and let the cycle complete without opening the door until the fan stops and no more air is coming out of the vent at the left bottom of the door. So I got Cascaid pouches that have Dawn and a drying agent in them and also bought the Turbo 3X Jet Dry. I loaded up the machine (I LOVE how much it holds!). Then placed the Cascaid pouch and filled up the drying agent port and set the port to 3, because I have neither soft nor hard water, and this was the factory default setting. I again selected the 1 hour and Smart Dry settings. The machine washed for an hour, then the green light came on and said it was complete. I didn't open the door yet, because the fan was still running and the vent at the lower left was still pushing out warm moist air. I kept checking the vent with my hand and found that it took and hour and a half before the fan shut off. The green light stayed on this whole time. When I opened the door everything was sparkling clean and completely dry, even the plastic bowels! The walls of the dishwasher were also dry, as well as the top and bottom. This machine is AWESOME!! It's so quiet you hardly know it's on and now that I know it takes a total of 3.5 hours to complete I just let it go. The point of the Smart Dry is to use only the amount of heat needed, rather than excessive heat for a designated time, like the old machines that end up melting your plastics. Also, if you don't select Smart Dry, the machine will only "Air" dry and will take much longer, especially if you don't open the door. Now mind you, the manual doesn't tell you any of this, so I felt it was really important to spread the word. You'll LOVE this dishwasher if you operat read more

After other remedies failed, I flushed out the rinse-aid chamber with lots of plain water. The film went away and my dishes are rinsing clean. After much experimentation, I find the washer works best using a gel detergent (not powders or packets) and a rinse-aid chamber full of plain water. The writers of the user's manual recommend the very opposite--packets and rinse aid. I find the manual's recommendations regarding a number of issues to be counterproductive; it's as if the writers of the manual never used the washer. Despite the manual's shortcomings and the washer's idiosyncrasies, I would recommend this washer to anyone who needs an affordable quiet dishwasher that does a good job with light loads. by AttentiveDaly City, CA | Wed, Mar 26, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 3 visitors found this helpfulVerified PurchaseWorks great We are very pleased with this dishwasher. It's not fancy, don't expect it to be amazingly quiet or have a ton of cycle options. I can hear this unit in my living room but it doesn't require you to turn up the TV. At 54dbs, it's probably 1/3 the noise of the 1980's KitchenAid it replaced. 2. I always use the Smart Wash cycle, it uses an optical sensor to measure how dirty the dishes are, and how many are in the unit. Expect this cycle to run 2 hours MINIMUM, including the 30 minute dry time. For me this makes no difference, I turn it on and leave the house, usually. 3. Rinse Aid is definitely recommended, when I went cheap and didn't use it, all the dishes were sopping wet when I removed them. Rinse Aid is worth the extra $ IMHO. 4. I've had no serious problems with the dishwasher in 3 years besides the rinse aid cap becoming warped and getting stuck, the service contract I purchased with the product covered this, which is good since the cap cost around $35. 5. Most newer dishwashers use a filtration disposer system instead of a grinder, and there is a filter in the bottom that should be checked every month or so, I've never had anything in mine but it's worth checking to be safe. 6. There isn't much need to pre-rinse with this thing, I eat oatmeal out of the bowl and throw it right in, everything gets cleaned 100%, the only thing I do is scrape off big chunks that wouldn't go through the filter. Pre rinsing is a huge water waster. All in all it's a good unit, my next one will probably have a stainless tub for less noise, but for what I paid it does a nice job cleaning and is quite efficient. 6. We'll be a lot more hesitant about buying Sears appliances in the future--especially when we have to go through a song and dance to get them repaired UNDER WARRANTY! We fully remodeled our kitchen recently and therefore let go of our white appliances to get stainless steel ones. This dishwasher cleans ok, is fairly quiet, but does not dry well at all. The dishwasher we let go of was an entry level German one we bought in 2007 for $550 in white (we bought a house and the dishwasher included died), and had a stainless tub, nylon adjustable racks with folding tines and good geometries, had a time left display (that is very useful), better insulation (rubber matting), better door gaskets, and cleaned and dried the dishes very well - it was very robust. I would not consider this Kenmore model at $700, but $500 may be ok, $400 may be more like it - it is an entry level dishwasher, but better than the cheaper ones. I cannot compare to the better more expensive Kenmore models but I recommend spending a bit more for something a lot better. by azidesKingston, TN | Tue, Apr 15, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag Verified Purchasebest ever so quiet!! I have now had this item for almost a year as of July 2014. The interior is cheap plastic and had I to do it over, would have spent extra and bought top of the line. I expected more for the $499 I spent on this however - The 1 hour cycle leaves the dishes still DIRTY AND WET after a full hour of cleaning. Often times I have to rearrange and run the dishes through a second and sometimes third 1 hour cycle. The other cycle choices are 1. Smart Wash 2. Pots and Pans 3. Normal Wash. These choices cycle for several hours (at least 2 or more). Then there are the other choices which don't work either: Sani Wash (doesn't work), Heated Dry (useless) and others ... It's hard to believe that this so called energy saving appliance is not actually energy saving at all. Quite frankly, it's a waste of money and the only thing I saved is the $500 I SHOULD have spent toward another product. Worst ever - don't buy it! Got it on sale at a great deal to match my other Kenmore appliances and am happy with the overall performance and quality of the product. It has pretty quiet operation, cleans well, and looks great. My only criticism is with it's drying performance. I've only run it once so far but when I opened the door hours after it finished, the walls were still wet and my dishes still needed to be toweled dry. My previous dishwasher, albeit older and uglier, dried dishes to the point where everything inside was dry to touch. BUT the racks are flimsy. We have only had the dishwasher for 2+ years and one of the wheels broke off the upper rack. We had to purchase a $30 replacement part. The part was out of stock when we ordered it - because apparently it fails a lot. I have never had any part of a dish washer fail before except the water pump at the end of a very long life. It was very disappointing for something so minor to fail. by TracyTMSylvania, OH | Sun, Feb 23, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag Replaced a Bosch. We're happy. One year into owning this washer and we are satisfied. Replacing our 18 year old Bosch which ran reliably and quietly called for careful comparisons. This one won on our primary criteria: dish cleaning capability, low energy consumption, low sound levels and prospect for durability. So far so good. Dish cleaning is excellent. The interior is very large and well organized. We use the smart cycle which somehow measures the dirt level of the dirty contents and washes accordingly. We also keep the dry cycle off to save electricity and still find the vertically loaded dishes, glasses and silverware dry just from the heat of the water. Rinsing the filter is quick and infrequent - maybe three times in our first year of ownership. Our electricity and gas bills dropped noticeably after installing this washer - enough so to save the price of the washer in about 11 years - maybe less if utility prices keep rising. it is fairly quiet - not the quietest available - but quiet enough. One note: the low energy Smart Cycle can take a long time to complete, so starting it when you head for bed works well. In the morning the dishes are long done and dry. So far no issues with durability. I put a few lightly soiled stove top pieces in it and it did NOT clean them at all! This machine is also hard to install because they want you to have to buy a couple different installation kits from them! Don't buy this machine. by shekendBethel, VT | Sun, Apr 6, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 4 visitors found this helpfulDon't buy !!! It's quiet and it does clean very well, the look is neat. But that's about it. We bought it in december 2010, got it replace the following spring and broke again last week... The control panel is not up to the task, once in a while you have to close the circuit breaker to rest it... The door twist too much when you open or close it. Had water leaking on the floor few times...had to put silicon near the hinges...The plastic used in the inside get dry and brake. ( wheels of both draw will go and the cutlery basket will need some tyrap !...) When you move the lower draw with some load, it's jumping out of it's tracks. This dishwasher is very quiet compared to our old one. I used to have to turn up the TV volume if the dishwasher was running. It is the quietest one I have ever had. We are actually remodeling our kitchen and purchased a whole Kenmore appliance package. And I am totally in love with all the appliances. The dishwasher works great and cleans everything. I also love that the dishes, pots and pans are dried. My old GE didn't dry the cups and glasses very good. Had to wipe everything dry which too a lot of time. I am very satisfied with this dishwasher. I would recommend this produ read more

This product: Kenmore 24" Built-In Dishwasher w/ Stainless-Steel Tub - Stainless Steel $629.99 3 visitors found this helpfulBuy the extended warranty For the first year, this dishwasher performed beautifully. Almost exactly 365 days after we bought it, however, it started to have problems. On a cold night, the plastic (!) water valve broke, first causing no water to enter and then exploding water all over the kitchen and into the basement . Luckily, we were there when it happened and could turn off the water supply. Then, the drying stopped working. We have now had the machine for 17 months and have had 4 or 5 visits from repairmen since December. They have replaced the fan, the soap and JetDry dispenser, and the vent, as well needing adjustments to several other bits and pieces. When they encounter a new problem, they rarely have the needed part on their trucks, meaning that the part has to be ordered and they have to come back again to install it. Scheduling their visits isn't bad as long as you are at home every day. Bottom line: Don't even think about buying this dishwasher unless you are willing to also pay for the extended warranty. Our Sears salesman suggested it (as salesmen always do), but I was convinced by the seriousness of the way he offered his suggestion. It was clear that we wouldn't be the first buyers to run into problems. by LincoBrookline, MA | Thu, Apr 3, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag sparkling clean dishes Had this dishwasher about 3 months. There was a slight problem with installation, it required my husband to go to Sears and retrieve some anchor screws to hold it in place. The detergent dispensary is a little low on the inside... so putting a tall dish next to it prevents it from opening properly. Overall I really like this dishwasher. It is very quiet, and my dishes have never looked cleaner. I would buy it again. All of the problems I have read with this POS are exactly true! I have wasted so much money from broken dishes from the rack falling apart that I should have spent the extra $800 and bought a GE. The adjustable rack on top was a great selling point...thinking that I could easily wash wine glasses...they were right about the "you can raise it up and down part," but they should have emphasized the "it comes down all by itself part"...all the way to the bottom! Yep, it's quiet....so quiet that you can't even hear your Waterford crystal crunching like it was in a Craftsman mulcher instead of a dishwasher. read more

We bought the black version when our old Maytag busted a gut on XMAS EVE (great timing, Maytag!) Due to our terrible experiences with the Maytag and its GE predecessor --neither lasted five years-- we bought a service insurance plan and prepared for the worst--i.e., being noisier, less efficient, and less reliable than claimed. This unit takes 2 hours to do a load, and we can watch TV in our living room (open floor plan), and it cleans dishes much better than anything we've ever had in the past. This flatware container arrangement is a little funky, but we kept our squarish basket from the maytag if we want to replace. If you're on the fence, get off it and buy this thing right now while it's on sale. by 4d3fectGrover Beach, CA | Sun, Mar 23, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag seems good quality for price Just had it installed and running first full cycle. Very quiet. Nice blue lights indicating what cycles/actions when on. Looks nice, very nice with dark grey panel that looked black in photos...still looks nice. Has weird start up, takes five start and stops before it will begin washing. Only happens if you interrupt a cycle by opening a door. Very weird...will be watching out for that issue. Don't like the silverware tray. Smaller than my last machines so kind of disappointed in that but at least can be place in lower b asket, I really don't like door-mounted silverware trays. My dishes fit pretty good, upper rach not as easy to fit cups, bowls, small items into. weird configuration. tines bend but i don't want to damage the coating...I will learn new ways! It isn't getting a 5 yet because I am running the first cycle....after a month I will update results. All in all I like it, now let's see if it really cleans and stands up to normal usage. by MrScrutinizer, | Thu, Feb 27, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 2 visitors found this helpfulVerified PurchaseAwesome Dishwasher After the install, we went to use the dishwasher the first time and had to check to make sure it was running, you can't even here this thing. This Samsung was very impressive for the price in the store, but it has poor performance compared to my previous experience with Kenmore dishwashers. It will stop working and require a service call if I do not run a cup of vinegar through once a month. I do not have hard water and my water is filtered. Dishes must be placed very specifically, otherwise there is food stuck on. My previous experience was so different. KitchenAid currently is manufactured by the Whirlpool Company, who also make the Kenmore, Kenmore Elite, Maytag and of course Whirlpool Brands. Having said that, down the road if needed (hopefully not) repair parts should be widely accessible. Being American made also played a factor in purchasing this particular unit. Our old Dishwasher was a 1999 Maytag, with a food grinder and a plastic tub. Prior to it breaking down, this unit would sound literally like a helicopter in the kitchen. This new unit, at 46 db, is barely audible if you are standing right next to it. The top controls take a little getting used to. We have accidentally pressed them with our shins while loading the dishes inside of the unit. Also, the rack layout is taking us a little longer than liked to get used to it. This unit fits a whole lot of dishes inside of it, just takes some "tetris-ing" get everything just right. Both of these thing are sure to be operators failure. This dishwasher cleans and drys amazingly well. The only reason why I did not give this a full 5-stars has to do with the amount of time it takes for a complete cycle. It seems to take up towards 2+ hours from start to finish. Nonetheless, still cleans our dishes wonderfully, and definitely worth the money spent on it. I would recommend this product to a friend. by AndrewFowlerAssociate from Hilton, NY | Mon, Mar 31, 2014 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag read more
