After several uncomfortable designs, Cap'n Josh made a hammock using wooden spreaders without knots. This original design has proven to be so comfortable, that it's still used in Pawleys Island's popular hammocks, over a century later.Pawleys Island continues to use the highest quality materials when making their traditional all-cotton rope, spun polyester rope, and DuraCord hammocks. Their custom-designed stretcher bars are cut from seasoned Carolina red oak, then steamed, bent, drilled, sanded, and varnished to impart a comfortable sway to the hammock and to spread the rope evenly for optimum stability. Dual layers of all-weather, solution-dyed, cotton-soft acrylic DuraCord fabric resist rot, mold, mildew, and fading. The array of colors includes garnet, pebble yellow, oatmeal, and leaf green, each of which will remain bright for years to come. This hammock swing from Pawleys Island is a long-time customer favorite because of its sense of spaciousness in spite of its small size, as the 40-inch spreader bars hold the cotton-soft DuraCord hanging ropes open wide. White-oak spreader bars are hand-dipped multiple times in honey-gold marine spar varnish. How does DuraCord differ from other fabrics? DuraCord is a hybrid fiber due to the many alterations that are made to its base ingredient. It is manufactured in a much smaller denier size meaning individual fibers are smaller making more fibers per yarn. The fibers go through a special texturizing process to give it its soft-to-the-touch, cotton-like feel. Fibers are de-lustered to take away the shiny look of the yarn and give it a cotton-like look. DuraCord fabrics are abrasion resistant, easy to clean, stain resistant, color fast, fade resistant, and have 1,000+ hours of UV resistance. The DuraCord fibers have the properties to make them durable for long outdoor life but without the synthetic feel. The deep, plush seat and back cushions are available in your choice of a variety of different designer options, from muted solids to brightly patterned prints. Fabric Options: Choose from to grades of fabric. Grade A is an outdoor fabric with a printed color or pattern. Grades B is a solution-dyed fabric. Both are designed for outdoor use, however Grade B fabrics, that differ only slightly in their manufacturing process, are more fade resistant. Solution dying refers to the color being soaked into each thread. Printed fabrics have the color on the top side of the fabric only. We recommend Grade B fabrics for extremely sunny regions or patios that are in direct sunlight. Grade A fabrics are amazing quality fabrics, but will fade quicker than Grade B when used in direct sunlight. Grade A fabrics have a 1-year fade warranty and Grade B fabrics have a 2-year fade warranty. Impeccable quality, sophisticated styling and best-in-class warranties prove the new generation of Sunbrella offers more possibilities than ever. Sunbrella fabrics are breathable and water-repellant. If kept dry, they will not support the growth of mildew as natural fibers will. Beautiful and durable, Sunbrella is a name you can trust in your outdoor furniture. Cleaning and Caring for Sunbrella Regular maintenance is the best way to keep your Sunbrella fabrics looking good and delay deep, vigorous cleaning. Brush off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabrics, and wipe up spills as soon as they occur. For light cleaning, use a mild soap and water solution and a sponge, allowing your cleaning solution to soak into the fabric. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and allow fabric to air dry. Sunbrella fabrics have been tested to provide up to 98% UV protection, depending on depth of color. Whites and lighter colored fabrics provide less protection than darker fabrics. This protective factor is inherent to the product and will not diminish through use or exposure to the sun. Sunbrella furniture and umbrella fabrics have been awarded the "Seal of Recommendation" by the Skin Cancer Foundation, an international organization dedicated to the prevention of skin cancer. Beautiful and protective fabric is the hallmark of Sunbrella. read more
