This mixture of large-flowered hybrids replaces the Singles strain we offered for many years because the hybrids are substantially... more perennial. They owe their durability to one of their parents, A. ficifolia, a long-lived Siberian species with Fig-like foliage. In all other respects, these are the traditional Hollyhocks, whose towering spikes of huge (4–5″) blooms are one of summer's greatest pleasures. Colors run from white to pale yellow to pink and burgundy, and plants reach heights of 6–8′. Hollyhocks will never outlive Peonies, but the plants from this Perennial Mixture carry on long after their biennial cousins are gone. Use multiple plants for a full range of color. The common Hollyhock is one of the most desirable garden plants nature ever invented. Alcea should be planted in full sun and, if placed in a protected location, might not need to be staked. Flowering begins in June here and continues into August. Rust, a fungus that appears as orange-brown spotting on the leaves, can sometimes be a problem, but seems to have little effect on the vigor of the plant. This can be avoided or diminished by providing ample air circulation around the plants. If necessary, treat with applications of Neem Oil or sulfur starting early in the season. For more information on growing Alcea, click Growing Guide.Hardiness Zone:3,4,5,6,7,7S,7W,8,8W,9,9W,10,10W Blooms In:August July June Spacing:18-24" Height:6-8' Ships as:1 PINT 28.86 CU IN. read more

We're pleased to add royal purple to our palette of garden Phlox. This mildew-resistant variety produces huge clusters of blooms w...ith white eyes. A fine selection from the Minsk Botanical Gardens. P. paniculata is the species that earned Phlox its reputation as an indispensable garden plant, and it's worth your while to have as many as possible to enliven your garden in late summer. Glorious in the border, sublime for cutting, of easiest culture, and as sweet smelling as can be. You simply can’t lose with the delightful pale blue standards and deep blue falls of this Iris. Highly floriferous, this award win...ner produces several stems topped with large flowers in June, and again in late summer. Reblooming varieties have been bred to produce bloom stalks more than once a year, first in spring and then again in late summer or fall. Although they have a tendency to rebloom, they are not guaranteed to bloom a second time. Repeat bloom is dependent on many things, including geographic location and growing conditions. But it’s definitely worth trying these varieties for a chance at a second round of stunning blooms. Iris is a large genus with upwards of 200 species, which range from inconspicuous wildlings to the extravagant Tall Bearded Iris. Plenty of sun and well-drained soil with a pH near neutral are the primary requirements for their success. For spring-shipped potted Iris, plant the rhizome at the same soil level as in the pot. The top of the rhizome should be exposed, or just below the surface in hot summer climates. For fall-shipped bareroot Iris, plant the rhizome horizontally with the top exposed, or just below the surface of the soil in hotter climates. Bearded Iris are best planted in the fall because they go dormant in June and are harvested in August. For more information on growing Iris, click Growing Guide.Hardiness Zone:3,4,5,6,7,7S,7W,8,8W,9,9W,10,10W Blooms In:August June September Spacing:18-24" Height:36" Ships as:BAREROOT read more

In evenly moist or wet soil, Astilbes are tough, pest-free, and handsome—everything a good garden plant should be. The only thing they cannot endure is drought.
