Plenty of large 6” semidouble to double, purple-pink blossoms with an ivory blush adorn this floriferous Intersectional variety. S...turdy stems hold the blooms upright so you can better appreciate their beauty. The blossoms’ intense color will soften slightly with age. Its deep green, disease-resistant foliage looks great all season long.Hybrids between Tree Peonies and herbaceous Peonies, known as Intersectional or Itoh Peonies, are superb, long-lived plants with the large, exotic blooms and refined foliage of Tree Peonies, but with stems that die back to the ground in fall like herbaceous Peonies. Making crosses between these two groups was a horticultural feat that proved remarkably difficult to accomplish. The quest for this elusive marvel began in Japan in the late 1940s with Mr. Toichi Itoh, and was picked up by American breeders. Don Hollingsworth introduced 'Garden Treasure' and 'Border Charm' in 1984. Rodger Anderson, an amateur breeder in Wisconsin, spent 12 patient years carrying out crosses, finally hitting the jackpot with yellow 'Bartzella', registered in 1986. Since then, other beautiful colors have been developed, but only a few have made it into commerce.Hardiness Zone:4,5,6,7,8,8S,8W Blooms In:June May Spacing:30-36" Height:36" Ships as:BAREROOT read more

Introduced in 1952, 'Vivid Rose' is still remarkable among Peonies for its "heavenly rose perfume." The large blooms are exquisite...ly formed and very full, in a rich pink shade that's lighter on the outer petals. Great for borders and bouquets, but provide support for the heavy blooms. Very late. There isn't a more rewarding garden flower than the herbaceous Peony, and a garden without these plants is a sorry thing indeed. Their extravagant display is produced in June, regardless of weather. Peonies have no natural enemies, no exacting cultural requirements beyond full sun and neutral to slightly sweet soil, and they shrug off cold. After bloom is complete, you are left with a handsome mound of glossy, deep green foliage that will happily anchor the next sequence of bloom in the neighborhood. Finally, Peonies make superior cut flowers, lasting more than a week if cut in full bud.We ship large roots with 3–5 eyes that are fresh from the growing fields. While a newly planted Peony seldom makes a first-class show in its first season, these vigorous plants will reach the top of their form in their second or third year. Southern gardeners should seek out our early bloomers and provide afternoon shade.Hardiness Zone:3,4,5,6,7,7S,7W,8,8W Blooms In:June Spacing:30-36" Height:24-28" Ships as:BAREROOT read more

Although generally under 2′ tall, Intersectional Peony 'Border Charm' is vigorous and floriferous, a good choice for smaller garde...ns or the middle of a border. Its light yellow, single blooms with red flares appear in midseason. Bred by Don Hollingsworth and introduced in 1984.Hybrids between Tree Peonies and herbaceous Peonies, known as Intersectional or Itoh Peonies, are superb, long-lived plants with the large, exotic blooms and refined foliage of Tree Peonies, but with stems that die back to the ground in fall like herbaceous Peonies. Since then, other beautiful colors have been developed, but only a few have made it into commerce. For more information on growing Peonies, click Growing Guide.Hardiness Zone:4,5,6,7,8,8S,8W Blooms In:June May Spacing:30-36" Height:20-22" Ships as:BAREROOT read more
