We bought this "silver mist" microwave to go along with our Frigidaire silver mist stove and fridge. This is silver plastic, not stainless, which hasn't been an issue with our fridge and stove that we've had for 4 years and 1 year, respectively. However, within 3 months of the microhood being installed, the silver plastic part of the doorfront bottom completely melted and warped during Thanksgiving cooking. It's properly installed by a licensed contractor and is vented and was used with the fan running. However, the plastic of the door apparently cannot withstand placement over the range--despite the fact that it's constructed to be over the range! During a few hours' worth of range and stovetop cooking, the plastic door became incredibly hot to the touch and melted. by JenE4SLincoln Park, NJ | Fri, Nov 30, 2012 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 9 visitors found this helpful Good while it lasted. I love it! This is the best microwave I've ever owned. The sensor cook buttons actually work and are quite amazing. It's like this microwave can think for itself. It knows more about microwaving things than I do! It is also very quiet. The beeping on the microwave is super annoying. We actually turned it off after a year of being completely annoyed by the loud neverending beeps (unless you quickly open the door when it is done). My biggest complaint is the defrost settings. It failed at about the six month mark. Thankfully, still under warantee, but we're into our fourth week waiting because the parts were back ordered, then it turned out something else was wrong, which required yet more parts ordered. Sears is now into the $6-800 range in labor and parts, which is double and more what it cost to buy this in the first place. We did a lot of shopping around and reading reviews before purchasing this microwave. I don't use a microwave alot, mainly just reheating. I've had this about four months and so far very happy with it. Some reviews mention that the timer is very load but I don't think so. It looks nice, pretty easy to clean (I would suggest using a cleaner made for stainless steel though) and has performed very well. We had it professionaly installed and after watching the installation, I'm glad we did. Overall, I really like this microwave. This is a wonderful microwave. It has a very large interior, but is super quiet. It is great-looking, goes perfectly with my other Frigidaire stainless steel appliances, and works great. It never takes as much time as on the directions of a food item or recipe, so be aware of that. I'd say it takes about 30 seconds less for every 4-5 minutes on high. It beeps very loudly 3 times when it's done, which is great if you are in another room. I'd like to find a way to make it 1 beep or quieter if I am working in the kitchen. Guess I've got to break down and read the manual! If I find the answer, I will post it here. I have no complaints about the microwave except one. My previous GE allowed use of the cook function and timer feature (to time something else) at the same time. This Frigidare does not have that capability; one or the other. Other than that it is a good oven. What did bother me with the purchase is the lack of knowledge by the sales people and lack of information regarding the built-in nature of this microwave. The microwave ordered by itself has no ducting or air venting additions, so my question is what makes it a built-in? My previous microwave had additional air ducts to move the vented air from the exhaust back directly to the front air vent to exhaust in the room. What I found out later is that the additional built-in ducting come with the trim kit. No where in the literature I found nor that the salesman provided was that information available. I did not order the trim kit as the Frigidare face plate did not match the dimensions of the wall space I needed to cover. I expected the microwave to come ducted and the trim kit to have the center equipment and face plate. I ended up finding out through a knowledgeable source that the front bottom venting Frigidare is okay without ducting kit if the size of the wall hole is large enough and the front vent is close enough to the face plate to exhaust to the room. Since this is a non-convection oven the exhaust temperature is reasonably low. Problem solved, but delayed installation several days to find the information. I ended up using www.microtrim.com to order their trim kit which contained the mounting/centering guides and the face plate (I highly recommend www.microtrim.com).
