It looks clean, easy to use and has a downdraft feature, but in the 6 months that we have owned it--we have had more issues with it. After waiting six weeks for it to arrive, we had our first issue with the cooktop a few months later. The smaller of the dual burners stopped working. After contacting Sears, a technician came out to replace the burner element on the smaller burner. The day after Christmas, as I was cleaning the cooktop, I noticed a hairline crack that ran the length of the unit-- starting at the same burner that was recently repaired...coincidence? I immediately called Sears who told me that I needed to contact Kitchen Aid now because the warranty is through them (buy the warranty through Sears!). Kitchen Aid sent a company out to inspect the unit (2nd time now) -- the cooktop glass needs to be replaced now. Kitchen Aid refused to replace the entire unit...even though it was the second time the unit needed to be serviced. In fact, their policy is to repair -- not replace, apparently "defective" is not a word their vocabulary. Oh and I am not supposed to use the cooktop until the glass is replaced...which could be 2 -3 weeks...they don't have the replacement glass in stock. After speaking with the customer service representative at Kitchen Aid and his manager...I barely got anywhere - for my inconvenience, they are willing to extend my warranty for another year-- big deal! Of course they do not take into effect the 3 days I needed to take (and will need to take) off of work to let the repairmen fix this unit. I don't even want this unit now -- too many problems. Save yourself this headache...buy from a company that cares about its products and its customers. by avila540Oviedo, FL | Wed, Dec 29, 2010 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag read more

I got a square/flat cabinet **** that screws in and added a long pipe and put a wing nut on it (so I could open up the cooktop) and screwed it down tight...that leveled it out. If it wasn't for this VERY THIN metal I would have given it a 5 star rating (however, this was all I could find at a reasonable price and I prefer 5 burners [expensive] and my controls on the side and not in the middle...as they get in the way in the middle). I would recommend this in the 36" as long as it was understood you needed to do something to level it out. When I started looking all I could find were + - buttons. This and the electrolux are the only ones I know that you can "jump" to what ever setting you want. A selling point in my book. Keeps the kitchen cool too! by 2woodyMemphis, TN | Thu, May 2, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 7 visitors found this helpful My Experience I love the way Induction cooking works, just like gas but with easy cleanup. I'm returning my 36" Induction Kitchen Aid Cooktop because the pan sensors will only detect a pan within a 1/2 inch of the edges of the heating elements. The smallest cooking element (4 out of the 5 elements) is seven inches. This means that the cooktop will not "read" a five inch pan and will not heat. The smallest pans that can be used must be six inches in diameter or larger. One quart and two quart pans are only five inches in diameter (including Kitchen Aids own one and two quart Induction cookware). I've talked with Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool personel and a service repairman and they agree that it is a design flaw. The 36" model needs to add at least one smaller cooking surface (like the 30" model) to be able to heat smaller pans. Do buy an Induction cooktop. But read the language of how the sensors "read" pans very carefully. by Badrating...Penn Valley, CA | Mon, Feb 11, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 3 visitors found this helpful Once you go induction you never go back to electric or gas! This cooktop was very easy to install! It cooks like a charm. It brings a pot of water to a boil in about 30 seconds. It has five burners and the one in the center allows for both a large and smaller pot. The side top and bottom burners "bridge". That is they combine to accommodate a larger pot. It "dings" if the pot is not placed properly within the bridge area. You do have to use induction rated cookware so that meant I had to retire some aluminum Calphalon. But that's ok because now I get to purchase some more All-Clad! They say stainless steel works best. The real beauty of this cooktop is it just heats the food and the surface stays cool and so does the pot for the most part! You can also use cast iron and we have used our Le Creuset but with cast iron the entire pot will still get hot. It does not deter from how well it cooks by any means. It is just an FYI. The burners go from top to bottom..right followed by left and then left followed by right. This is driving me crazy but like I said it looks nice. I just always keep a kettle on the right side filled with a little water just in case we ever do this again. by mrshappiSan Jose, CA | Thu, Oct 24, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 3 visitors found this helpfulHappy Buyer! My husband and I replaced our older Jenn-Air cooktop with this Kenmore cooktop about a week ago and I just love it. I can't believe how quickly it heats up..MUCH faster than my Jenn-Air did, even when it was new, and for a MUCH lower price. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced cooktop that works GREAT. This cooktop looks great! I went without 2 burners for a while and this replacement was awesome! It looks really good and the burners work well and cleanup good! HOWEVER!!! The knobs do not seem to be intuitive. We had a major explosion during my son's 1st birthday party where a family member turned on the wrong burner and we had a glass dish on the other burner that exploded. Glass pieces everywhere and could have been deadly if someone was in the kitchen. Yes, our fault completely! We couldn't believe they turned on the wrong burner until I did it myself another day, my husband did it and even friends that came over mistakenly did it. That's even with remembering the major incident and triple checking the correct burners are on. I'm not sure what the "norm" is but instinctively we go left to right, top to bottom.
