I bought this machine for my daughter-in-law, who has never sewed in her life. For over 40 years, I have been sewing on Kenmore machines, but they are no longer manufactured, so I did considerable online searching before selecting this particular model. Smaller, less expensive models did not have the specific features I wanted available to her, whether she used them or not: automatic buttonholes, feed dog control, length and width control. I was visiting and used this machine for over two weeks to sew curtains for her. I also tested and experimented with a number of the built in stitches. This is a great machine for both regular and specialized use, very much worth it's price. The only cautions are in respect to the foot pedal. It is lightweight and tends to slide on a bare floor and is very sensitive to pressure. It will benefit from a non-skid pad (mouse pad perhaps?) and pre-testing foot pressure on the pedal. I really enjoyed sewing with this machine! I would recommend this product to a friend. by 2LakeGrandsLake Stevens, WA | Sat, Aug 17, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 9 visitors found this helpful Just a basic machine This is a good machine for just basic sewing. It boggs and "CLUNKS" when going through heavy material or multi layers. If your sewing like a stuff toy or something with bulk the needle treader gets in the way and the treader is not the easiest thing to use. by KJFredGoodyear, AZ | Wed, Feb 6, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 2 visitors found this helpful sewing machine Love it , it is the best investment I have made in a longtime. I have only bought one other sewing machine in my life and that was 25 years ago. Two day before Halloween it stopped working. I was in a panic and ordered this Brother SC6600 online to pick up in the store. WOW! I've sewn for 25 years on an old singer from sears so my first thought when seeing this out of the box was that it was far too much for what I needed it for. Untli this machine I was a straight stitch and mending stitch person. Not only has my sewing changed in 25 years but, unfortunately, so has my eyesight. I was SO impressed that this machine threads the needle automatically!!! Now I'm making designer jeans for the teenagers in the neighborhood with the myriad of design/embroidery stitches. It's so (sew?) easy! I can't believe I held out so long. It was easy to pick up, thread, etc. I would h read more

I'm hoping this will last her a good long time while we share our passion for sewing. by MemaysGirls, | Thu, Sep 19, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 3 visitors found this helpfulVerified PurchaseWould NOT recommend In setting up this machine, I found it impossible to thread. The shuttlecock was so far recessed that I couldn't even slide the thread through the hole that it needed to go through. The manual was no help and the DVD was generic to a variety of machines instead of helping with the specific machine I bought. In returning the machine to the store, I had hoped to exchange it for a properly functioning machine; however, the few machines they stocked were all tightly closed up in their boxes. The salesclerk never offered to open a box or help me. Frustrated and discouraged I got a refund and bought a machine somewhere else. by allisan, | Sun, Jun 2, 2013 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 6 visitors found this helpful So easy to use, should have gotten this machine a long time ago! Hard to thread. Yes, sergers are complex, but this one didn't open on the left in the area of the thread-guide for the lower looper, making that step of threading too tricky. 2. Unbalanced tension. Out-of-the-box, it took settings of 2-1-4-2 to balance the stitches on medium fabric. 3. Hard to remove fabric plate (to access tool storage and use free-arm). The so-called release button was hard to operate without wrestling with the machine. I was hoping for a good, basic utility serger, but this one was too frustrating to use. by EL1111San Jose, CA | Mon, Jul 9, 2012 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 0 visitors found this helpfulGIFT I know my mother will get a lot of use out of this.
