Design Within Reach Modern Cuckoo Clock
Designed by clock specialist Ingolf Haas, our Modern Cuckoo Clock (2008) is certified by the Black Forest Clock Association of Germany, VdS (Verein-die Schwarzwalduhr). The 140-member association, of which Haas is the chairman, includes app...roximately 90% of all the proŽducers of authentic Black Forest Clocks. In other words, there are only about 150 clockmakers in the world who make these remarkable timeŽpieces. Through Haas? leadership, the group agreed upon specific criteria that a clock must meet to be certified as an authentic Black Forest Clock. Namely, it must be purely mechanical in how it works (no batteries or electric cords), and it must be entirely produced (even all the interior parts) in the Black Forest, a wooded mountain range in southwestern Germany. This clock is powered by the pull of gravity on its weights and needs winding only once a week. However, should you need to silence it before the week is complete, it has a shut-off switch. The red cuckoo bird calls on the hour and half-hour, when two small bellows mechanically push air through wooden whistles inside the clock ? all without batteries or electronics. Some setup required.
