To him, design involves much... more than having fun. ?It?s hard work, serious work,? says the German designer. ?You have to think not only about the object you?re designing, but everything else about it, from how it will be produced to who will be using it, to what happens to it after it goes through its life cycle. So designing is big responsibility.? Semi-reclined and low-slung for comfort, his Medici Chair (2012) is a modern take on the classic Adirondack. Fashioned only from three-quarter-inch-thick planks, Medici speaks to the production process at its start, when a tree trunk is cut into lumber. This chair is finished using a proprietary heat-treating and hand-oiling process that protects it from the elements. BIFMA approved. Medici is produced by the Italian manufacturer Mattiazzi and distributed by Herman Miller® in the U.S. and Canada. Made in Italy. read more
