Bathroom Corner Cabinet Buying Guide

We all know that bathrooms are notorious for lacking storage space -- there’s just never enough room for all the stuff we need for personal grooming. The right bathroom corner cabinet can provide the storage you want. Let us show you how to make an informed purchase.

Types of Bathroom Corner Cabinets

Types of Bathroom Corner Cabinets

A bathroom corner cabinet might just be the answer to adding the extra storage you need in your new or updated bathroom. Before you go shopping, be sure to take inventory of what items you want the corner cabinet to hold. Tall spray cans? Stacks of towels? Glass containers full of cotton swabs? All of these will dictate the shelf height and depth you need.

Family-Size Corner Bathroom Cabinets

The more people who use a bathroom, the more stuff there is to be stowed. So if your family bathroom has an open corner, take advantage of the space by choosing a corner cabinet that sits on the floor and has several shelves. Many tall corner cabinets have either open or glass-front shelves in the upper half and enclosed storage in the lower half, perfect for displaying pretty soaps and custom tissue covers as well as hiding the kids’ rubber duckies.

Single-Size Corner Bathroom Cabinets

If you’re the only person using the bathroom, chances are the room is compact. Even if all lower corners are occupied by other bath elements, you can still tuck a small corner cabinet into an upper wall space. Open or enclosed, it provides an easy-to-reach holding area for items that might otherwise be cluttering your vanity countertop.

Purchase Considerations

Purchase Considerations

Corner cabinets were a staple in the dining and sitting rooms of early American homes, where their space-saving genius was a necessity. So it just makes sense that they be put to good use in what are often the smallest rooms of today’s homes -- bathrooms. Before purchasing a bathroom corner cabinet, take these tips into consideration.

Measure, Measure, Measure

Remember that despite a builder’s best efforts, a house -- and its corners -- aren’t always perfectly square. In addition to measuring the available width on each sidewall, also measure the angle to find out if a corner cabinet will fit snugly. If you’re placing breakables on its shelves, you want it to be stable.

Materials

Corner cabinets are available in almost any material, including wood, laminate, metal, enamel coatings, and wicker. We’ve even seen a traditional baker’s rack, designed for a kitchen corner, used in a bathroom corner. Keep in mind, though, that if shelf surfaces are uneven or aren't solid, the cabinet’s storage potential is lessened. It can be hard to keep tall items upright on bumpy or lumpy surfaces, and small items can fall through openings.

Mirrored Corner Cabinets

When a corner cabinet has mirrors on its door or doors, it not only provides another useful place to view yourself, it also reflects light and makes a bathroom seem bigger -- something to consider when choosing the perfect model for your bathroom.
