A striking Border Bearded Iris that is royal purple streaked and mottled white. Like snowflakes, no two blooms are alike. The effe...ct is enchanting, and because plants grow just 24″ tall, you can enjoy them with such companions as Aquilegia. Winner of three American Iris Society awards. Iris are among the best-known and best-loved garden plants. Say the word, Iris, and visions of brilliant June flowers come to mind. This huge genus contains upwards of 200 species, which range from timid and inconspicuous wildlings to the splendid and extravagant Tall Bearded Iris. The chosen habitats of Iris range from standing water to formal borders, and there is scarcely a shade or combination of colors that can't be found. Plenty of sun and well-drained soil with a pH near neutral are the primary requirements for their success. Although generally under 2′ tall, Intersectional Peony 'Border Charm' is vigorous and floriferous, a good choice for smaller garde...ns or the middle of a border. Its light yellow, single blooms with red flares appear in midseason. Bred by Don Hollingsworth and introduced in 1984.Hybrids between Tree Peonies and herbaceous Peonies, known as Intersectional or Itoh Peonies, are superb, long-lived plants with the large, exotic blooms and refined foliage of Tree Peonies, but with stems that die back to the ground in fall like herbaceous Peonies. Making crosses between these two groups was a horticultural feat that proved remarkably difficult to accomplish. The quest for this elusive marvel began in Japan in the late 1940s with Mr. Toichi Itoh, and was picked up by American breeders. Don Hollingsworth introduced 'Garden Treasure' and 'Border Charm' in 1984. Rodger Anderson, an amateur breeder in Wisconsin, spent 12 patient years carrying out crosses, finally hitting the jackpot with yellow 'Bartzella', registered in 1986. Since then, other beautiful colors have been developed, but only a few have made it into commerce. For more information on growing Peonies, click Growing Guide.Hardiness Zone:4,5,6,7,8,8S,8W Blooms In:June May Spacing:30-36" Height:20-22" Ships as:BAREROOT read more

This exuberant lady, Iris 'Lenora Pearl,' was the first pink reblooming Iris we offered, and is still a favorite. Her performance ...is not a whit diminished by the relatively modest dimensions of the plant, which, at 2′, is properly considered a Border Bearded Iris. The blooms are gracefully shaped, and the sweet pink is brought to life by a bright tangerine beard. Plants are perfectly proportioned and carry the June and late-summer flowerings with such style that 'Lenora Pearl' carried off the coveted Knowlton Medal (which goes to the best Border Bearded Iris) in 1996. Reblooming varieties have been bred to produce bloom stalks more than once a year, first in spring and then again in late summer or fall. Although they have a tendency to rebloom, they are not guaranteed to bloom a second time. Repeat bloom is dependent on many things, including geographic location and growing conditions. But it’s definitely worth trying these varieties for a chance at a second round of stunning blooms. Iris is a large genus with upwards of 200 species, which range from inconspicuous wildlings to the extravagant Tall Bearded Iris. Plenty of sun and well-drained soil with a pH near neutral are the primary requirements for their success. For spring-shipped potted Iris, plant the rhizome at the same soil level as in the pot. The top of the rhizome should be exposed, or just below the surface in hot summer climates. For fall-shipped bareroot Iris, plant the rhizome horizontally with the top exposed, or just below the surface of the soil in hotter climates. Bearded Iris are best planted in the fall because they go dormant in June and are harvested in August. We start shipping bareroot plants in early September, continue to late October for warmer zones. For Zones 3–4 (yes, they are hardy in Zone 3), we recommend early orders, which we will fill in early to mid-September.  For more information on growing Iris, click Growing Guide.Hardiness Zone:3,4,5,6,7,7S,7W,8,8W,9,9W,10,10W Blooms In:June September Spacing:18-24" Height:24" Ships as:BAREROOT read more
