Design by Michael Graves, 1985. By Alessi. The head of a large and successful family of objects designed for Alessi by Graves in t...he 80's and 90's, this was the first product by an American designer to be included in the Alessi catalog. It opened the way for the playful design style that subsequently characterized the 1990's. And, thanks to an inspired mix of post-modern and pop idioms, it has become one of the internationally recognized icons of the 80's. An Alessi best seller since 1985, this product has sold the greatest number of units in the history of the company. Made of 18/10 mirror-polished stainless steel with magnetic stainless steel heat diffusing bottom. Select Blue, White/Ivory or Black handle and small bird-shaped whistle. read more

Design by Ufficio Tecnico Alessi, 1948. By Alessi. The 826 comes as a variation on an age-old theme in the history of household pr...oducts: that of the metal wire basket. This was the first object to emerge from research by the internal engineering department at Alessi into wire-bending technology, in the late 40's. It led to the creation of a small family of baskets with very basic design which, even today, still reaps enormous success. read more

Design by Stefano Giovannoni, 2007. By Alessi. The collaboration between Alessi and the National Palace Museum of Taiwan grew out ...of the museum's wish to open itself further to the international scene, and to encourage greater awareness of Chinese history and culture in the West. Alessi asked Stefano Giovannoni to imagine and design a sort of mascot for the new Museum of the 21st Century. From this was born the "Family of Mr. Chin" series for the "A di Alessi" catalogue: a group of characters, each of whom represents a specific household function. "Mr. Chin" is also a new chapter in the lucid design language that characterizes Stefano's work: instead of the usual method of casting a single piece of plastic from a single injection, the character-objects are made with separate molds (head, hat, body, foot, pompom) which are then assembled like wooden soldiers or porcelain dolls, thereby giving greater articulation to the typical wit and refinement of Giovannoni's decorations of the clothes, which are hand-painted. read more

Design by Ufficio Tecnico Alessi. By Alessi. The 370/19 Citrus Basket is part of a re-edition of Alessi bar and kitchen objects fr...om the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. With its proportions, lightness and function, this bowl has become an Alessi classic ? a true archetype of 'essential' objects and the inspiration behind all the fruit bowls in the Alessi assortment. The 370/19 Citrus Basket is made of mirror polished 18/10 stainless steel. "On a personal level, these objects are part of my childhood memories: I always saw them used in my parents' house. On a professional level, the "normalcy" of these household objects has always struck me. They weren't just "normal" in the sense that they were used everyday at home. They were examples of an era of the consumer society which was destined to disappear quickly: a time I'd call pre-design, prior to the phenomenon of Designer goods in all of our homes." ?
