A Tiny Nursery with Big Style

The nursery is often the smallest room of the house. See how this small nursery took advantage of all angles to create a cozy space for baby.

Sleek and Sophisticated

A skimpy room doesn't have to mean skimping on style or furniture size. This designer crib flaunts modern angles and fun circles (a shape found throughout the room), and though it's full-size, it fits nicely into a corner. Tall white paneling helps the space appear bigger.

Unique Mobile

Hanging above the crib, this bold mobile imitates the solar system.

Add a Picture Rail

Don't underestimate the value of 3 inches in a tiny nursery like this one. That's the depth of the picture rail wrapping the room three-quarters of the way up the wall. It's simply the perfect landing pad for artwork, knickknacks, and even a clip-on light.

Hidden Storage

Under the crib is prime real estate. Whether you're storing clothes from the last season or for the next, peekaboo boxes stash them neatly. And with a simple crib skirt to conceal the wares, no one will ever know they're there.

The Cozy Factor

It glides, it swivels, and it reclines -- this chair does it all. Settle into its cushy seat with baby for dreamy one-on-one time. When it comes to window treatments, go for durable, low-maintenance cotton blends such as these grommeted panels.

Space-Saving Rocker

If you think an ottoman would just get in the way but know a foot prop is a nursery must-have, consider opting for a reclining chair so the footrest is there when you need it and gone when you don't.

Shelf Help

Tucking neatly within the wall panels, two narrow L-shape shelves appear interlocking when mounted together and offer a convenient resting spot near the rocker for storybooks, cuddly friends, or a bottle at bedtime.

Underfoot Options

Whether you choose an area rug or wall-to-wall carpet, go for thick, soft pile for your curious crawler. The blue-on-blue scheme helps the large pattern work in the small room (a multicolor rug would be too chaotic) and is almost pool-like, reflecting the room's upper walls.

Catchall Corner

A canvas diaper caddy and wall storage unit keeps necessities within arm's reach, and a changing dresser stows other essentials out of sight. With three drawers and shelving behind its door, it can hide away blankets, diapers, and even that bulky vaporizer.

Pretty Pegboard

A grade up from the usual perforated board, this modular decorator pegboard comes in several colors and has catchall accessories to corral clutter as well as display keepsakes.

Ditch the Door

Sliding in modular storage cubes, painting the closet wall, and hanging cuter-than-cute baby clothes makes this closet too cool to hide behind a closed door. Color-coordinated photo boxes keep open shelving shipshape. If you can't keep your kiddo's closet this neat, use a tension rod and a fabric curtain to block the view.

12/14
Double-Hung Rods

If you don't have the ideal height to stack two levels of hanging clothes so they'd still be within reach, so fake it by staggering the rods like we did. The top one is set back so clothes hang down behind the front row.

13/14
Built-In Dresser

To make every inch count, give ready-to-assemble cubes a custom fit in the closet by trimming them with quarter round molding and topping with a piece of painted plywood. As an alternative, you could just slide them in, anchoring them to one another and to the back wall.
