    • Do-It-All Space

Once strictly used for TV and movie viewing, this living room was updated to serve additional purposes as a guest bedroom and office. Apricot walls and perky fabrics give the room a cheerful vibe. A bound rug over new wood flooring grounds the scheme and sets the tone for the room's orange color palette.

    • Hot Seats

Cozy furniture pieces ensure after-work relaxers and overnight guests always have a spot to rest. A sleek sleeper sofa stretches out to a full-size bed, while a nearby chaise longue offers another spot to catch some z's. A pair of etageres flanking the sofa provides practical storage space and wow-worthy visual presence.

    • On the Move

Pulled together, four lightweight end tables function as a single coffee table, perfect for board games, kids' crafts, and more. Pulled apart, the tables can serve as nightstands for overnight guests. With the sleeper sofa, it was important to find pieces that are light and easy to move so the room can be rearranged to accommodate the foldout bed.

    • Sitting Pretty

Pretty and practical, the comfy chaise longue provides yet another spot to relax with a good book or to catch up on sleep. An eclectic blend of patterns used throughout the room -- on everything from throw pillows to wall art -- creates a casual yet energetic vibe. Various hues of orange color the room. To balance the many patterns and visual elements, a mild peach orange covers the walls; the fiery oranges blaze across the room in smaller doses -- from the narrow stripe on the chaise, to the details on throw pillows, to the orange coffee tables, to the pattern in the rug. Yellow comes in as an accent hue, creating an analogous scheme that is dynamic but not overwhelming.

    • Productive Nature

To add to the room's already-boosted functionality, a small desk provides a convenient workstation. The cheerful peach wall color and pretty, nature-inspired accessories encourage productivity. Small office items like pens, pencils, and paperclips are stored in tiny canisters to avoid cluttering the desktop with odds and ends.

    • Dressed to the Nines

Across from the desk, a painted dresser provides both style and function. The unit's traditional styling fits in well with the living room's eclectic mix of furnishings and accessories, and the cool gray-blue color serves to temper the warm color scheme. Drawers offer storage for items that are better left tucked away. A large mirror above the dresser bounces around light from a nearby window, helping to visually expand the entire room.

    • Bright Idea

Although the etageres flanking the sofa boost style and incorporate storage, they occupy space that would ordinarily be used for end tables and table lamps. Pretty sconces solve that dilemma and add character in the process. The pattern on the shades echoes the motif featured on nearby throw pillows

    • Tech Savvy

The TV should never dominate a room, but today's models don't need to be hidden either. Hanging the TV between two windows keeps it out of direct sunlight that causes glare and washes out color. Another benefit? The sitting area now faces the views out the windows. Hanging the TV close to eye level with a tilt-down mount ensures maximum viewing pleasure. A console placed below gives the unit a sense of place and ensures the TV doesn't float in the room.

    • Media Storage

A console table below the TV provides a convenient spot to stash media components. A colorful tray is a sanity-saver -- it's a great home for remotes and other small gadgets that tend to go missing. To streamline space, a tablet takes the place of a computer and can also run the TV and all of its components, minimizing the collection of remotes.

      Sleep Tight

The living room's bedtime look is big on little amenities -- an alarm clock/MP3 player dock with speakers amps up wake-up playlists, while a carafe filled with water ensures guests are never parched. Color-coordinated sheets and decorative throw pillows blend with the room's cheerful vibe.
