Make weeknight dinner fast and easy. Here's a main course recipe and three suggestions for rounding it out into a complete meal. Find out how to effortlessly dress up starters, sides, and desserts to fit the meal's main course.

The Menu
  • Pulled Pork with Root Beer Sauce (see recipe below)
  • Carrot Salad with Pineapple
  • Potato Salad with Peppers
  • Upside-Down Sundaes

The sweet flavor of root beer makes this dinner a hit with the children. Serve with kid-friendly Carrot Salad with Pineapple, Potato Salad with Sweet Peppers, and Upside-Down Sundaes. Your family will love the dinner, and you'll love how easy it is to make with pantry staples like canned pineapple and frozen peppers. And don't forget that the pork cooks in the slow cooker while you're busy doing something else.

Pulled Pork with Root Beer Sauce

Carrot Salad with Pineapple

Shredded carrots tossed with a dollop of mayonnaise and canned crushed pineapple makes a great sweet salad.

Potato Salad with Peppers

Deli potato salad is made much more lively with sauteed red and yellow peppers. Start with fresh peppers and saute in olive oil. Or go to the freezer section in the grocery store and pick up a package of stir-fry peppers. Cook according to package directions; chop and add to potato salad.

Upside-Down Sundaes

Fun for kids and grown-ups alike, try this funny sundae: Put a cherry and whipped cream in the bottom of the cup, drizzle with chocolate sauce, then top with ice cream. You have to get to the bottom of the cup for the topping in an upside-down sundae.
