Seashore Jewelry

Found at the ocean's edge or purchased from a store, these shells make one-of-a-kind jewelry.

What You Need For the Seashore Necklace:

  • Small starfish
  • White acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Iridescent white glitter
  • Thick white crafts glue
  • Eye pin
  • Beading string or dental floss
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Beading needle
  • Pastel pearl beads
  • End clasps for necklaces


1. Paint the starfish white. Let dry. Paint a second coat. Sprinkle white glitter onto the wet paint. Shake off the excess. Let dry.

2. Use crafts glue to attach a small eye pin to the back of the starfish. When the glue dries, add a little more glue and let it dry.

3. Cut an 18-inch-long piece of beading string or dental floss. Tie one of the end clasps to the end of the string. Thread the other string end through the needle.

4. Lay beads out in the order you want them, making a line about 14 inches long. Find the middle of the line of beads and place the starfish there.

5. Begin to string on the beads in the order you have decided. When you get to the middle, string on the decorated starfish. Continue stringing beads. Tie end to clasp.

What You Need For the Seashore Pin:

  • Acrylic paint in white and white pearl
  • Paintbrush
  • 1-1/2-inch square of cardboard
  • Clamshell
  • Thick white crafts glue
  • Small pastel-painted shells
  • Pin back
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Hot-glue sticks


1. Paint one side of the cardboard white. Let dry. Paint the other side white and let dry.

2. Paint the clamshell with a coat of white pearl paint. Let it dry. Paint another coat if needed. Let it dry.

3. Coat one side of the square with a generous amount of crafts glue. Place the painted clamshell in the center of the glued square. Fill in the rest of the square with tiny shells. Let it dry overnight.

4. Hot-glue the pin back to the top back side of the square. Let it dry.

What You Need For the Seashore Barrette:

  • Acrylic paints in white pearl and pink pearl
  • Paintbrush
  • Two 1-inch shells
  • 24 tiny shells with drilled holes
  • Pastel seed beads
  • Beading thread
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Hot-glue sticks
  • Barrette back


1.Paint two 1-inch-size shells with white pearl paint and 24 tiny shells with pink pearl paint. Let the paint dry.

2. String seed beads onto thread, ending with a small pink shell. Make approximately a dozen strings of various lengths.

3. With the shell ends down, hot-glue the tops of the strings to the center of the barrette. Glue the larger white shells on the string ends. Glue the remaining shells to the ends of the barrette, along with beads if desired. Let the glue dry.
