Hot Fudge Sauce

Makes: 12 servings
Serving size: 2 tablespoons for plain or peanut butter variation Yield: 1-1/2 cups sauce

Hot Fudge Sauce
Ingredients
  • 3/4  cup  semisweet chocolate pieces
  • 1/4  cup  butter
  • 2/3  cup  sugar
  • 1 5  ounce can (2/3 cup)  evaporated milk
Directions

1. In a small heavy saucepan melt the chocolate and butter over medium heat. Add the sugar; gradually stir in the evaporated milk. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Boil gently over low heat for 8 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Cool slightly. Serve warm over ice cream. (Cover and chill any leftovers for up to 3 days.) Makes 1-1/2 cups sauce.

From the Test KitchenPeanut Butter-Fudge Sauce:
  • Prepare as above, except after gently boiling for 8 minutes, stir in 1/4 cup peanut butter. Makes 1-3/4 cups sauce.
Hazelnut-Mocha Sauce:
  • Prepare as directed, except stir in 1/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread with the semisweet pieces and butter. After removing sauce from heat, stir in 2 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur or strong coffee. Makes 2 cups.
