Lemongrass Basics

Follow these guidelines when working with lemongrass.

  • Lemongrass, a highly aromatic, lemon-flavored herb, is used in many Asian dishes.
  • It has layers similar to a leek and should be treated the same.
  • Trim the fibrous ends and slice what remains into 3- to 4-inch sections.
  • Cut each section in half lengthwise, exposing the layers.
  • Rinse the pieces under cold water to remove any grit and slice the lemongrass thinly.
