Step One: Assess Your Weight
Understanding your natural weight level is important for good health and dieting.

Research shows that obesity can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Step One of our program is to take a look at your current weight to determine just how serious a problem you have. (Or whether you don't have a weight problem at all.)
The Height-and-Weight chart you may have grown up with has been replaced with a new measure: the Body Mass Index. For most of us, BMI is a single number that indicates whether our weight is a hazard to our health.
Click here to calculate your BMI now.

A BMI of 25 or higher indicates that you can improve your overall health by losing some weight. A BMI of 30 or more signals a more serious problem. You should talk with your doctor if you find yourself unable to lower your BMI with this or any other eating plan.
Our BMI calculator also indicates your "maximum healthy weight." If you are currently overweight (have a BMI of 25 or higher), this makes a good target weight. In Step Three, we'll show you how to find the number of calories you need each day to help reach that goal.
