Best Bets for Storing Bread

To get the best results, follow this advice.

Remove hot bread from the machine as soon as it is done and place it on a wire rack to cool completely -- cooling it in the machine can cause it to become soggy. Once bread is cooled, store as follows:

  • To store at room temperature, wrap in foil or plastic wrap, or place in a plastic bag. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 3 days.
  • To freeze, cool bread completely. Freeze in a freezer container or bag up to 1 month. To serve, thaw bread at room temperature.

Believe it or not, storing bread in a refrigerator makes it grow stale more quickly. For breads that contain perishable ingredients -- such as meats or cheeses -- freeze what you don't eat the first day.
