Caramelized Magic



Caramelized sugar makes a great
garnish for ice cream treats.

  • Chefs and veteran home cooks use caramelize sugar to add a deliciously rich flavor to desserts. This simple technique involves heating sugar until it melts and turns a peppery brown.
  • You can spoon the hot golden liquid over baked custard, drizzle it over ice cream or other desserts, or turn it into fanciful shards.
  • Make the decorative shards by cooking the caramelized sugar mixture in a baking pan and tapping the cooled mixture with a spoon to make jagged pieces.
