Grilled Basil Burgers
Ingredients
-
1
slightly beaten egg
-
2/3
cup chopped onion
-
1/2
cup grated Parmesan cheese
-
1/4
cup snipped fresh basil or 1 tablespoon dried basil, crushed
-
1/4
cup ketchup
-
2
cloves garlic, minced
-
1/4
teaspoon salt
-
1/4
teaspoon pepper
-
1
pound lean ground beef
-
1
pound ground raw turkey
-
8
hamburger buns, split and toasted
-
8
lettuce leaves
-
8
tomato slices
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl combine egg, onion, Parmesan cheese, basil, ketchup, garlic, salt, and pepper. Add ground beef and turkey; mix well.
2. Shape meat mixture into eight 3/4-inch-thick patties. If desired, wrap patties individually in plastic wrap; pack the patties with ice in a cooler for up to 4 hours.
3. Grill patties on rack of uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 15 to 18 minutes or until an instant read thermometer registers 160 degree F when inserted near the center, turning once. (Meat patties will appear pink when done because of ketchup added to mixture.) Serve patties on buns with lettuce and tomato. Makes 8 servings.
