Kielbasa Stew

Kielbasa Stew
Ingredients
  • 4
    cups coarsely chopped cabbage
  • 3
    cups peeled, cubed potato
  • 1 1/2
    cups sliced carrots
  • 1
    pound cooked kielbasa, sliced
  • 1/2
    teaspoon dried basil, crushed
  • 1/2
    teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
  • 1/2
    teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2
    14 ounce can reduced-sodium chicken broth
Directions

1. In a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker combine cabbage, potato, and carrots. Top with kielbasa. Sprinkle basil, thyme, and pepper over kielbasa. Pour chicken broth over all.

2. Cover; cook on low-heat setting for 7 to 9 hours or on high-heat setting for 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 hours. Makes 4 or 5 servings.

I've been making this for YEARS. The only thing you want to change is to put the sausage in towards the end of the cooking time. Say, about 45 minutes or so. If you leave it in as instructed, it's going to change the texture and taste. Afterall, it doesn't need to be cooked - just heated. Other than that, I recommend this recipe.

I almost alwaysd tweek a recipe and I did to this. I used two 32 oz cartons of chicken broth and a cup of diced onion. It came out great but I would add some celery and either green beans or peas to it. I did notice that if you cut the cabbage too small it will cook away so I suggest you not chop it small.

we love the soup i have tried it with other types of other sausage and it work really well it just need more chicken broth i also added onion my family just loves it i have to triple the recepit i don't cook as long only till the cabbage,carrots, potato are done.
