Onion-Thyme Gravy
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup chopped onion (about 1 large)
- 3 shallots, chopped (about 2/3 cup)
- 1 teaspoon snipped fresh thyme or 1/4 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 14 ounce can reduced-sodium chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions
1. In a medium saucepan melt butter over medium-high heat. Add the onion, shallots, and thyme; cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 12 minutes or until vegetables are tender and browned.
2. Stir in the all-purpose flour; cook and stir for 1 minute. Add the broth, soy sauce, and the Worcestershire sauce. Cook and stir until mixture comes to boiling; reduce heat to medium. Simmer, uncovered, for 8 to 9 minutes or until slightly thickened. Stir in the salt and pepper. Makes 2-1/4 cups or nine 1/4 cup servings.
