Bartolino's Marinara Sauce

ounces dried pasta, cooked according to package directions
Directions
1. In a medium saucepan, cook the onion and garlic in hot oil over medium heat until onion is tender. Stir in undrained tomatoes, wine (if desired), salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper.
2. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until sauce reaches desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Stir in basil and sugar. Cover and cook for 5 minutes more. Serve over pasta. Makes 2-1/2 cups sauce (4 to 6 servings)
