Spicy Sausage Pizza Dip
pound bulk Italian sausage
cup chopped onion
cloves garlic, minced
15 ounce cans tomato sauce
14 1/2 ounce can diced tomatoes
6 ounce can tomato paste
tablespoon dried oregano, crushed
teaspoon ground red pepper
cup chopped black olives
Breadsticks, breaded mozzarella cheese sticks, and/or green sweet pepper strips
- In a large skillet cook Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until sausage is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat.
- In a 3 1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker, combine sausage mixture, tomato sauce, undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, and crushed red pepper; mix well. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 5 to 6 hours or on high-heat setting for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Stir in olives. Serve with assorted dippers. Makes 3 1/2 cups dip.
