Spicy Sausage Pizza Dip
Ingredients
- 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
- 2/3 cup chopped onion
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 15 ounce cans tomato sauce
- 1 14 1/2ounce can diced tomatoes
- 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano, crushed
- 1 tablespoon dried basil, crushed
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped black olives
- Breadsticks, breaded mozzarella cheese sticks, and/or green sweet pepper strips
Directions
1. In a large skillet cook Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until sausage is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat.
2. In a 3 1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker, combine sausage mixture, tomato sauce, undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, and crushed red pepper; mix well. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 5 to 6 hours or on high-heat setting for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Stir in olives. Serve with assorted dippers. Makes 3 1/2 cups dip.
