Baked Puffy Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients

slices bread
 
Dijon-style mustard
3
ounces bulk pork sausage, cooked, drained, and broken into small pieces
2
tablespoons shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
1
egg, beaten
1/2
cup light cream, half-and-half or milk
1/8
teaspoon seasoned salt
 
Dash bottled hot pepper sauce

Directions

  1. Trim bread into rounds to fit a 10-ounce casserole. Lightly spread with mustard. Place slice, mustard side up, in the greased casserole. Top with sausage and cheese. Cover with remaining bread, mustard side down.
  2. Combine egg, cream or milk, seasoned salt, and hot pepper sauce. Pour over sandwich in casserole. Bake in a 325 degree F oven about 30 minutes or until egg mixture is set and sandwich is light and puffy. Serve at once. Makes 1 serving.
