Mocha Hot Cocoa Mix

cups nonfat dry milk powder

cups sifted powdered sugar

cups unsweetened cocoa powder

cup instant coffee crystals

cup miniature semisweet chocolate pieces
Directions
In a bowl, stir together milk powder, sugar, cocoa powder, coffee crystals, and salt. Divide mixture among 5 gift bags. Sprinkle some of the chocolate pieces into each bag. Seal and store at room temperature for up to 3 months. Makes 5 (3-serving) bags.

- Note Directions to give with cocoa mix:Before using, stir chocolate pieces into cocoa mix. For each serving: Place 1/3 cup of the mix in a mug. Add 1 cup boiling water, stirring until chocolate chips melt. If desired, top with marshmallows or whipped cream.

A 2:1 ratio of sugar to cocoa is about standard, as that is the ratio Hershey's recommends in their instructions. I don't know why this recipe has a 1:1 ratio. Also, if I were making it for personal use, I'd forget the powdered milk and just mix it with real milk and for a little something extra, I'd replace the chocolate morsels with the little mint/chocolate bits.

11/26/2011 06:39:26 PM Report AbuseI knew it would be like this, but anytime you try and make a hot chocolate from powdered milk, it just doesn't have the body that hot chocolate does when made with milk. I think Savannah was on to something with all the things she added to it. Does need some help to get it to be something a little more desirable.
