Super Heroes to the Rescue Cakes
Ingredients
  • Baked or purchased frosted cupcakes
  • Individual oblong creme-filled sponge cakes
  • Canned white frosting
  • 6-inch wooden skewers
  • Purchased colored fondant
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Fruit leather
  • Candy-coated Jordan almonds
  • Miniature candy-coated milk chocolate pieces
Directions

1. Frost cupcakes, if plain, and sponge cakes with white frosting. For each cake, insert 2 wooden skewers lengthwise through the sponge cake, then insert skewers through the top of a cupcake.

2. Start at the top of each cake. For hair, you can push fondant through a garlic press or roll out to 1/8-inch thick and cut in to strips with a pizza cutter and attach to top of cupcake. For clothing and masks, roll fondant 1/8-inch thick and use a paring knife to cut into various shapes for tops, pants and masks.

3. For the mouths, roll fondant in to very thin ropes and cut to desired lengths. For hands, mold with your fingers and then insert pretzel sticks. Insert the other end of the pretzel stick in to the sponge cakes to make arms.

4. Fruit leather makes great capes and belts. Use Jordan almonds for feet and miniature chocolate pieces for other features. If desired, place some of the frosting in a resealable plastic bag, snip one corner, and use for "glue" to attach any of the pieces.

5. Remove skewers before eating. Each Super Hero is 1 serving.
