Sugar Balls

Ingredients
1 1/2
cups butter (no substitutes)
1 1/2
1/4
teaspoon salt
1
teaspoon vanilla
1/4
teaspoon almond extract
3 1/3
1/4
cup green sugar
1/4
cup red sugar

Directions

  1. Beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add 1 cup of the granulated sugar and the salt; till combined. Beat in egg yolks, vanilla and almond extract.
  2. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour with a wooden spoon. Divide dough in half. Stir green sugar into half of dough, red sugar into other half. Make 3/4-inch balls of each color.
  3. Press one ball of each color together slightly. Roll together gently to make half-red, half-green ball. Roll each colored ball in the remaining granulated sugar. Place balls on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten balls into 1 3/4-inch circles with the bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer to wire racks and cool. Makes about 60 cookies.
