Chunky Apple-Sage Appetizer
Ingredients
- 3 medium apples (such as Pink Lady), peeled (if desired), cored and chopped (about 3 cups)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
- 2 tablespoons snipped fresh sage or 2 teaspoons dried sage, crushed; or 1 tablespoon snipped fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
- 2 tablespoons dried cranberries
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon apple brandy (optional)
- 16 French bread slices, toasted
- Shaved sharp white cheddar or regular cheddar cheese
- Honey (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In an ungreased 1-1/2-quart casserole combine apples, onion, sage, and cranberries. Drizzle with olive oil; toss to combine. Bake, covered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until apples are softened, stirring once halfway through baking. Remove from oven. If desired, stir in apple brandy. Let cool slightly.
2. Serve baked apple mixture warm atop French bread slices. Top with cheese and drizzle with honey, if desired.

- Prepare as directed in Step 1. Cover and refrigerate baked apple mixture for up to 6 hours. Reheat, if desired, or let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving.
