Made this for a graduation party because I wanted a 9x13 rather than a layer cake. It was a hit! Made it the night before the party and finished it with a Buttercream Frosting (see Red Velvet Cake). Very chocolately.

Ingredients

  • 3  cups all-purpose flour
  • 2  cups sugar
  • 2  cups cold water
  • 2/3  cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2  cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2  tsp. baking soda
  • 2  tsp. white vinegar
  • 1  tsp. salt
  • 1  tsp. vanilla

Directions

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. In large mixing bowl combine all ingredients. Beat with electric mixer on medium to high speed until well combined. Pour batter in a greased 9x13x2-inch baking pan.

2. Bake 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream, or dust with powdered sugar. Makes 12 servings.
