Cabinet Makeover: Sheet Metal Shimmer

If you think your kitchen cabinets are beyond repair, don't despair. With a little creativity and elbow grease, you can revive the face of almost any cabinet door.

How To
  1. Using a router, remove the door's raised panel. Chisel out the rounded corners left by the router so right angles remain.
  2. Sand, wipe with a cloth, clean with sodium triphosphate solution, apply a stain-blocking primer, then semigloss paint.
  3. Place glass -- cut to size at your local glass shop -- securely inside the frame with clips.
  4. Using tin snips, trim a length of patterned sheet metal (available at home centers) to the size of the glass. Place the metal behind the glass, securing it with glazing points every 3 or 4 inches.
