American Elm Tree (Ulmus americana)
The American Elm was once extensively planted as a street and large lawn tree. It reaches a height of 60-80' with a spread of 30-40'. Leaves are 3-6" long and 1-3" wide and are a lustrous dark green in summer and yellow in fall. The tree will also bear perfect, greenish red flowers in March. The trees have many pests and are susceptible to Dutch elm disease.

There are cultivars available. American Elms, once used extensively as a street and lawn tree, is a very stately in appearance.

Chinese Elm Tree (Ulmus parvifolia)
Chinese Elm is an excellent, tough, durable tree for about any situation. It reaches a height of 40' - 50' with a spread of about 40'. They are rather graceful round-headed trees.

Their leaves are .75-2.5" long and are a dark green in the summer changing to yellow or reddish purple in the fall. Flowers are formed in late August or September but are essentially masked by the foliage. There are many cultivars available. This tree is well-suited for urban use. It is tough and durable for any situation.
