Cutting Tile
Step-by-Step
Mark a cut line on the tile with a pencil or felt-tipped pen (on glazed tiles only). Place a tile in the cutter, right side up, aligning the cut line with the cutting wheel. Set and lock the fence on the cutter to hold the tile in place.
Hold the tile in place with one hand and the handle with the other. Set the cutting wheel on the top of the tile. Pull or push (depending on your model) the handle while maintaining steady pressure on the tile. Try to score the tile evenly on the first pass.
When the tile has been scored, press back on the handle just enough to snap the tile along the score line. If the tile will not break, the score line was probably incomplete or not deep enough.
Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. See that the blade is in good condition, and that the water bucket is full. Place the tile on the sliding table, and lock the fence to hold the tile in place. Turn the saw on, and make sure water is running onto the blade. Press down on the tile as you slide it through, taking care to keep your fingers out of the way. When the water runs out, refill the bucket; do not cut with the saw for even a few seconds unless water is running onto the blade.
