Before the makeover, the kitchen was dark and closed off, and the U-shape arrangement left a void in the middle. Certified kitchen designer Erica Westeroth showed the homeowners how to maximize their space. Knocking down a wall opened the room and brought in natural light from the dining area and living room. Adding an island gave the kitchen much-needed storage.
