Savvy Storage Strategies

Here's how to stash more stuff in the cabinets you've got.

  • Prioritize. Keep items you use daily in the most accessible storage areas.
  • Store items by weight. Place the heaviest items in storage areas between hip and shoulder height; store only the lightest items overhead.
  • Use "found" space. Convert unused space for specialized storage. Use the sliver of space beside the refrigerator for a slide-out pantry. Make use of the space between wall studs for cookbook storage.
  • Divide to conquer. Install vertical cupboard dividers to maximize storage space for pan lids, platters, and trays.
