A sleek coat closet near the front door keeps the entry clear. Built-in pullout shelves add function to what could have been ignored space. Such shelves can store hats and other inclement-weather gear or even hide a stash of cleaning supplies for last-minute touch-ups. If space allows, consider including a bench for changing shoes.
