Mudroom: Organization Domination

According to Lori Leistico, organization expert and designer for KraftMaid, the key to conquering clutter is to give everything a place. The most common problems she sees are mail, financial records, electronic gadgets, shoes, recycling, and kids' stuff. Leistico conquered these trouble areas by organizing this mudroom into zones.

For dbl dr use nonused door wall. Single, use wall behind dr. Cut drywall in hall to rm behind. I used 8" deep cab & IKEA 7" 3 tier shoe. Frame & dr same color as walls. My cab stuck out 2" into master bath side. Put moulding around cab back & painted wall color. Hung hooks for towels. If other room backs entrance, attach shelves to cab back for display; mount canvas, kids art, message centre. Open space with coat hooks & narrow shoe shelf below works. mapeggy

I, too, have a raised ranch and hardly ever see decorating/home improvement ideas suitable for this type home. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find?

I would love to have a mudroom problem! We have a raised rancher--our entry is about five feet wide and three feet deep, with French doors and two sets of stairs. The coat closet is upstairs and at the end of the hall, by the bedrooms. The situation, as far as I see it, is hopeless.

I agree with MrsEpp. My entry is very small and leads right into the living room as well. We also have stairs right as you come into the entry. Everything tends to end up on the stairs or right in the doorway. Please help!!
