Selecting Edging Materials
Edging materials usually are sunk lower into the ground than the rest of the patio. This provides a stable framework for your patio. For the best border appearance, select the same material as the patio surface or material that creates a pleasant contrast between the patio and the yard. If your patio is made of loose materials, such as crushed stone, be sure the edging seals it in and is high enough to keep stones from moving into the grass. If grass comes right up to the patio, choose an edging that is lawn-mower-friendly, such as a smooth, raised edge.
