- 4 5-foot lengths of redwood or cedar 2x2s (A)
- 14 feet of 1x2 cedar or redwood (B, C, D, and E)
- countersink drill bit
- protractor
- circular or table saw
- heavy-duty construction adhesive
- 24 2-inch deck screws
- power screwdriver with no. 2 Phillips bit
- tape measure
- scrap wood and nails for tacking
- fine-grit sandpaper
- If finishing: One pint wood preservative or stain
- If painting: One pint exterior latex paint, one pint oil-base exterior primer, brushes, paint thinner, scrap wood, and spare nails for tacking
