Laying Flagstone Surfaces

About this Project

The simplest method of installing a flagstone patio is to place the stones on well-tamped soil. Such a patio surface is quick to install; however, you'll need to readjust settled stones every year.

The flagstones should be at least 3/4 inch thick or they will crack. Purchase stones of a fairly uniform thickness so they will be easy to lay evenly. If you choose a combination of large, medium, and small stones, you'll be able to make creative patterns more easily.
