Step-by-Step

From diverter to sprayer

To find the diverter in a typical one-handle faucet, remove the spout; it's usually located in front.

If you get low or no water pressure from the sprayer, first check the hose for kinks. A slow stream of water coupled with some water coming from the spout may signal a stuck valve or a worn washer or O-ring. Replace the rubber parts or the diverter valve. Or, the sprayer screen may be clogged (see Steps 1 and 2).

1. Troubleshoot the sprayer

Minerals may be restricting the flow of water through the sprayer. Clean the spray disk with an awl or a nail as shown. Replace any worn parts, and tighten all the connections.

2. Clean the aerator

To clean out the aerator, unscrew it from the faucet spout and disassemble it, brush all the parts clean, and soak the pieces in vinegar overnight. If it is heavily clogged, just buy a new one.
