Fixing Sprayers, Diverters, and Aerators

About this Project

Sink sprayers can be obstructed at the connections, gaskets, and the nozzle. If water doesn't come out of the sprayer, the problem is most likely a faulty diverter valve: You can replace either the rubber seal or the diverter. Remove the diverter and take it to your supplier to be sure you get the correct replacement.

Diverters vary in shape and location, but all work in much the same way. When water isn't flowing toward the spray outlet, the valve remains open and directs the water flow toward the spout. When you press the sprayer lever, the flow of water shifts toward the sprayer head.

If your faucet has low water pressure, check the aerator. Aerators may develop leaks if their seals are worn, or they can get clogged up.
