Setting Popped Drywall Nails

Prev  1 2 (of 2)  Next

Step-by-Step

1. Secure with nails or screws

Drive in ring-shank nails or screw in drywall screws above and below the popped nail. If the popped nail is very loose, it may have missed the stud. Remove it and drive new fasteners into a nearby stud.

2. Dimple nailheads

If using nails, "dimple" the nails below the surface. Do not break the paper surface. Fill the dimples or screw holes with compound.

3. Apply compound and finish

Apply a second coat of compound, feathered at the edges. Wait a day, then sand, prime, and paint.
