join and drill

Step-by-Step

1. Temporarily join and drill

Position the boards the way you want them and join them temporarily with fasteners or clamps. If you use fasteners, make sure they will not be in the way of the dowels. Square up the corner and drill holes for the dowels.

2. Drive the dowels and trim off

Squirt carpenter's glue into the drill holes and insert the dowels. Tap them all the way in and clean away excess glue. Cut off the dowels as flush to the board as possible without scratching the edge. Sand the remainder smooth.
