Recipe for a Healthy Kitchen
Their son's allergies inspired one couple to make a healthy environment the top priority in their new kitchen.
Start with Healthful Ingredients
When Lynn and Mike Kenny set out to build their new house, they decided that one factor superseded all the rest: their son's allergies. "It gave us a direction," says Lynn, a part-time physical therapist and aerobics instructor. "It helped us limit our choices from the start, which was actually nice."
Because of concern for their son's health, the couple looked for materials, products, and appliances that produce no allergens or molds, minimize waste, and use less energy. All of this is especially apparent in the kitchen, where natural materials such as concrete and quartz surfacing are used on the island and perimeter counters.
