Cabinet Basics
Will you select stock, semi-custom or custom cabinets? Here are some helpful tips.

and fastest to arrive.
Stock Cabinets
All cabinet types have advantages and disadvantages.
Stock cabinets offer the quickest route to new storage. They are available in many standard sizes and finishes; "filler" pieces take up the slack.
Pros: The least-expensive cabinets with the speediest delivery time.
Cons: Fewest options in surface finishes and options; interior fittings such as lazy Susans and pullout shelves cost extra.
Other considerations: Widths range from 9 to 48 inches, in 3-inch increments. Cabinets less than 24 inches wide have one door; wider cabinets have two.
If your cabinets are in good shape, and you like the configuration, consider replacement doors. Combined with a refinishing job, this option can give you a whole new look at a fraction of the cost of new cabinets.
Judge replacement doors just as you would the entire cabinets. Look for quality materials and excellent finishes.
