Sweetheart Nosegays
These pendants make a perfect wall hanging or great wedding giveaways.
- Fabric stiffener
- 2 Battenberg lace heart-shape doilies
- 3-2/3 yards of 1-1/4-inch-wide dark-green moire ribbon
- 8 inches of floral wire
- Lowmelt adhesive
- 6 small dried red roses
- 2 small bunches of purple statice
- 4 small bunches of boysenberry-dyed broom bloom
- 2 small bunches of purple-dyed broom bloom
- 32 inches of 1-1/4-inch-wide ivory ribbon
- 32 inches of 1-1/4-inch-wide pale-green ribbon
1. Apply the fabric stiffener to the lace doilies, following the manufacturer's instructions. After the doilies dry, iron them to remove wrinkles.
2. Cut a 25-inch length from the moire ribbon, and set it aside. From the remaining ribbon, make a nine-loop bow, securing it with floral wire. Glue the bow to one end of the 25-inch length of ribbon, and cut the opposite end of the ribbon diagonally.
3. Using lowmelt adhesive, attach the doilies to the ribbon, leaving 1-1/2-inch between the bow and the first doily and about 2 inches between the two doilies.
4. To assemble the nosegays, first divide the roses, statice, and broom bloom in half. Glue three of the roses into a cluster, then glue the cluster to the center of one doily. Cut the stems of the statice close to the flowers, and glue them directly beneath the rose cluster. In the same manner, glue the boysenberry-dyed broom bloom to each side of the rose cluster. Finish by gluing the purple-dyed broom bloom above the rose cluster. Accent the cluster with dried rose leaf. Repeat for the remaining doily.
5. Cut the ivory and pale-green ribbons in half. With one ivory 16-inch length of ribbon and one pale green 16-inch length, form a loop, and glue it to the doily, tucking it into the side of the nosegay. Repeat for the remaining doily. Use a scrap of ribbon to form a hanger on the back of the bow, securing it with lowmelt adhesive.
