A Salute to Those Who Help from Home

Throughout history, seamstresses have used sewing skills in support of their country as well as to honor loved ones at war.

People put their hearts and souls into every stitch when they sewed items such as parachutes, tents, flags, blankets, and uniforms. Quilts were also a passion and necessity during war. In 1863, more than 1,200 quilts were issued in one month to Union soldiers; some were made specifically for the troops, while others were family quilts sacrificed for the cause.
